This January transfer window proves to be a time of significant speculation and potential major transfers. A number of prominent stars are being connected to moves out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the key figures that might be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the player in contention, indications are a significant transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a sizeable release clause active for a brief window at the start of the month. Latest developments point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only 28, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a possible destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English striker has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling chances of being in the national World Cup. However, securing a transfer presents major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as admirers.

Harvey Elliott

Although starring and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, this young player has struggled for minutes on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a return to his parent club before next summer appears to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

This exciting Turkish forward has been in fine form for Juventus this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term contract but face a race to retain one of Europe's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a major transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
